Victory against Beacon Knights

Sat 8 March Away Match Teign Village
Sidmouth Town U12 Raiders produced yet another good display in an ever improving season with a great 3-3 draw at the home of the league leaders Teign Valley . The significance of this result became apparent at the end of the match when Teign Valleys manager informed us that we were the first team in thirteen months to take points off them at their home ground , a great achievement for our raiders!

The match begin well for the raiders surprising the home team with some good play ending in a home goal post being struck and another shot dragged wide . Unfortunately things took a turn for the worse with the home side finding their feet to score the first goal which led to a rapid second and then a third all before the halfway point of the first half! Fearing the worst the coaching team and ever supportive parents tried to rally the lads and as a direct result of some positive parental encouragement Sidmouth scored their first goal from a good throw in move and fine finish from Archie Rowe to go in at half time 3-1 down.
Ollie Jones in goal with a defense of Jamie Wyant Scott Gibson and Ben Scrivens all played superbly under pressure to hold off the home side for the rest of the first half and the whole of the second. With Thomas West and Matty Laurenti adding some great tackling and enthusiasm the raiders started the second half well and got their rewards with a goal of the season candidate from Finley Morgan finding the top corner from thirty yards. Morgan was supported in midfield throughout the whole match by the ever dependable Cole Monaghan who worked tirelessly ,
Archie Rowes brillant skills and Ben Latham who has become an integral part in the teams success of late. Jack Wilson came on and immediately started to worry the home defense with intelligent runs and good strength resulting in a period of sustained pressure which brought several corners. A great corner from Monaghan was headed into the roof of the net from six yards by Morgan to bring the scores level with ten minutes left. With both teams going on to create a few chances each a draw was the fair result when the match ended. Well played the Raiders .

Sidmouths favourite youth team go from strength to strength in their latest stunning victory, writes Simon James.
The match started quickly with the Lions attempting to catch the raiders defence napping, but seasoned defenders, Glen Sinker, Ben Scrivens and Thomas West put pay to the advance.

Finlay Morgan fired the ball up the left wing to be scooped by Jamie Wyant and Cole Monaghan, who it turn set up Matte Laurenti for Sidmouth first goal.

Soon after a long cross from Ollie Jones Ben (The Scrivinator) Scrivins drove in another fantastic goal. By now the Boys were fired up and pressurising the Lions, all the play was in the Lions end. The Raiders showed some great skills and set pieces.
Just before the half time whistle, deadly striker Archie Rowe converted aten yard free kick into a stunning goal.

At the blow of the whistle a striker broke free and made a brave attempt on the Raiders goal, veteran Goalkeeper Isaac James calmly difused the situation with a great save.

Scot Gibson's left foot dropped the ball at Jack Wilsons feet, sho then scored the fourth for Sidmouth. By now the Lions were looking demoralised and Ollie Jones poached the fifth for Sidmouth. Popular team members Will Lorkin and Ben Latham destroyed the Lions defence with some outstanding passing and set Jack Wilson up for Sidmouths sixth and final goal of the day ENDS

S.T.J.V. U12’s Raiders 3 – 2 Beacon Knights
By Simon James

This was always going to be a tough game as Beacon Knights are a top of the league team and the weather was appalling.

The game started hard with the home team trying to dominate, stalwart defender Glen Sinker, back in the team after injury soon put pay to the Knights forwards. Scot Gibson’s fantastic left foot got the ball into the Knights half. Matt Laurenti and Will Lorkin demonstrated some superb set pieces, ably backed by Finlay Morgan and Ben Latham. The Knights defence strengthened, the ball broke free and the Knights poached their first goal.

By now the weather was almost unplayable and the home team surged forward overrunning the Raiders defence and scored again. After some touchline advice from Assistant coaches Craig Morgan and Trevor Lorkin the Raiders regrouped and Jack Wilson scored just before half time.

The youngsters returned to the field, Sidmouth were fired up and confident and the Knights looked rattled by the recent Sidmouth goal. With Ben Scrivens and Thomas West providing their usual stonewall defence, the raiders went to work on the Knights, within a few minutes Sidmouths popular Archie Rowe powered in the important equaliser.

Knights hit back hard and seasoned Goalkeeper Isaac James (later named man of the match), now ankle deep in mud took a pounding from the frustrated Knights strikers.

Finally in the dying minutes, great team play from Jamie Wyant, Cole Monaghan allowed Jack Wilson to score and win the match for Sidmouth. ENDS

Sat 14 Dec Away - Sidmouth Raiders 5 v Pinhoe Pirates 0
Writes Tracy Latham

Sidmouth Raiders came out with fighting spirit against the Pinhoe Pirates. End to end play saw fantastic footwork by Cole Monagahn & Jamie Wyant enabling Mattie Laurenti to break clear from the Pirates defence unfortunate not to find the back of the net. The Pirates pushed on unable to penetrate the defences of Ben Scrivens, Thomas West & Scott Gibson. A foul saw Archie Rowe awarded a free kick which he placed at the foot of Finlay Morgan and was knocked in to claim the Raiders first goal.

The second half saw fresh legs with Ben Latham, Jack Wilson, Ollie Jones & Will Lorkin. The end to end play continued with Isaac James putting a swift end to the Pirates attempt on goal. The Raiders then took full control with some fancy footwork by Will Lorkin, Jack Wilson gained the Raiders second goal, closely followed by Ollie Jones' two goals. Sat 23 Nov - S.T.J.V. U12’s Raiders 3 – 3 Teign Valley
By Simon James

The Raiders wasted no time in attacking the Teign defence, Jack Wilson and Finlay Morgan showing some fantastic passing skills. New signing Jamie Wyatt showed great pace as Sidmouth battled the defence. Teign were awarded a free kick within the Raiders danger area, but a superb save by Isaac James demoralised the visitors.

Sidmouth back in control over ran the bewildered Teign defence and Archie Rowe, Sidmouths star striker opened the scoring.

The Raiders stonewall defence Glen Sinker, Ben Scrivens and Thomas West proved too much for some physical attacking from the desperate visitors.

After half time Teigh came back fast and converted a free kick into an equaliser. Shortly followed by another, Sidmouth pushed back hard but not until Teign poached another goal. After some slight tactical adjustments given from the touchline by Head Coach Tony West, the Raiders pulled another goal back beautifully scored by Ben Latham. The game generally was getting very physical and just before the final whistle a spectacular top corner goal from Cole Monaghan ended a very exciting match.

Sat 16 Nov Sidmouth Town Viking Raiders U12’s v Hemyock 3-3
Writes Tracy Latham

The match started out with the Raiders showing fighting spirit, excellent passing resulted in the Raiders making a few early breaks only to be halted by Hemyock.

A corner kick in by Ben Latham found the foot of Cole Monaghan to secure their first goal. Fancy footwork by Archie Rowe saw the second hit the back of the net.

Hemyock pushed back only to hit the impenetrable defences of Ben Scrivens, Scott Gibson & Thomas West, a further attempt on goal by Hemyock was crushed by goalie Glen Sinker. Hemyock then snuck one in, the Raiders pushed back hard ending the first half 2-1 up.

The second half saw fresh legs, Mattie Laurenti & Will Lorkin, it continued with end to end play. A Raiders injury saw the return of Ollie Jones. Driving on Jack Wilson took an opportunity to break free and secure the Raiders 3rd goal, with Hemyock pushing hard they managed to sneak two more past the Raiders to end the game 3-3.

Sat 26 October - Away Match
*S.T.J.V. U12’s Raiders 1 – 2 CS Lions (Uffculme)

By Simon James

The game started fast and hard with both teams trying to dominate the other. Ben Scrivens and Thomas West’s defending frustrated the Lions forwards. The Raiders coaching teams tactics started to pay off with Sidmouths Ben Latham and Will Lorkin demonstrating some fantastic passing, setting up Scot Gibson for a brave attempt on goal denied by the keeper.
Several attempts on the Lions goal were cruelly denied, Ben Scrivens singlehandedly dribbled the ball past four CS players to set up Jamie Wyant for a strike which unfortunately found the woodwork.
The lions then regrouped and swarmed forward and poached the first goal.

After half time the same Lions tactics were employed and once again they overran the Sidmouth defence and took another goal. After some verbal encouragement from their assistant coach, the popular Craig Morgan, the team found new energy and through some well practiced set pieces Scot Gibson scored after a classy pass from Finlay Morgan. The remainder of the game was spent in the Lions half but the Raiders were unable to find that elusive equaliser. ENDS

Sat 28 Sep
S.T.J.V. U12’s Raiders 2 – 3 Tedburn St Mary

By Simon James

Sidmouth started the game by demonstrating some fantastic passing and possession skills with much of the first fifteen minutes spent in the Tedburn half. Only to be frustrated by their defence. Tedburn then changed tactics and swarmed forward and poached two goals in quick succession. Ben Scrivens, Finlay Morgan and Scott Gibson battled hard against a very well organised Tedburn side. Ben Latham made two great saves. Col Monaghan and Ollie Jones supported by Archie Rowe made several brave attempts on the Tedburn defence but to no avail as the half time whistle blew.

The pace of the game increased in the second half and Tedburn scored again. The Sidmouth defence regrouped and the new tactics paid off with Cole Monaghan scoring for the Raiders. A more confident Sidmouth side took control of the match as Will Lorkin scored a fantastic goal to bring the score to 2-3.

The remainder of the game was Sidmouth playing some quality football, but unable to level the scores. Isaac James was tested several times by the Tedburn forwards in the dying minutes. ENDS

Sat 21 Sept
Sidmouth Town Viking Raiders 8 - Pinhoe Pirates 1

Writes Tracy Latham & Di Puzey

The Raiders came out fighting for the first half of the match against the Pinhoe Pirates, within a few minutes Scott Gibson knocked in the first of many goals, this was closely followed by Cole Monaghan’s. The Raiders continued to push forward testing Pinhoe’s defences, breaking through again and again resulting in a goal from Archie Rowe. The Pirates made a break only to find themselves up against the impenetrable defences of Ben Scrivens and Finlay Morgan. On a second lucky break their efforts were halted by a determined save from Ben Latham. Jamie Wyant skilled his way back up the field with a cracking shot skimming the post. Will Lorkin pushed on to secure the 4-0 half time score.

The second half saw more end to end play but the Raiders defence stood their ground, a few near misses then rewarded Ollie Jones with his second goal. Retaliation resulted in the Pirates first goal but despite further attempts they were unable to get anymore past Isaac James. The Raiders kept up the pressure, Mattie Laurenti pushing forward, Jack Wilson found the back of the net closely followed by Jones securing his first hat trick of the season.

Final Score 8 – 1 to the Raiders.
