Sidmouth Town Junior Vikings Under 10's Raiders helped by local Freemasons
As part of an annual programme of charitable giving Devonshire Freemasons have distributed nearly £20,000 to 26 local charities and worthy causes. The donations were presented by the Provincial Grand Master of Devonshire, Right Worshipful Brother Michael Penny, at the Mount Edgcumbe Masonic Hall, Plymouth on Friday evening 20th April.

Sidmouth Town Junior Vikings Under 10's Raiders was included in this distribution and received a donation towards the purchase of wet/cold weather training equipment. Wade Monaghan, from Sidmouth Town Junior Vikings said that the funding was very welcome as it is becoming increasingly difficult in these hard times to find the funds to kit out the young players in the appropriate attire. This coming season not only will we be looking to purchase wet weather training kit for the already established team but we will also be purchasing additional training and match kit for the expanding team as the size changes from 7 to 9 aside next season.

The attached photograph shows Wade Monaghan Manager and Issac James and Cole Monaghan, players from Sidmouth Town Junior Vikings Under 10's Raiders receiving the cheque from R.W. Bro. Michael Penny, Provincial Grand Master and W.Bro. Simon James the representative from the Old Helean Lodge, Exeter.

Saturday 3rd December Match Report
Sidmouth U10 Raiders 2 v Broadclyst 1
Raiders have been unlucky with some narrow defeats this season but came out on top in this exciting end to end game despite going a goal behind in the first half. Ben Scrivens and Theo Burne worked hard in defence and despite a solid midfield performance from Finley Morgan and George Salter Broadclyst scored seconds before half time with a good shot in the bottom which gave keeper Isaac James no chance. Scott Gibson and Jake Jones did a lot of running up front and were unlucky not to score. In the second half Finley Morgan continued to drive the side forward along with Cole Monaghan in midfield. Thomas West and Glenn Sinker were solid at the back allowing the midfield to get forward. A good corner from Thomas West resulted in Oliver Jones forcing the ball over the line to level the score 1-1. A fine clearance from Glenn Sinker and two great saves from Isaac James kept Broadclyst out whilst Oliver Jones, Finley Morgan and Jake Jones were causing problems with their attacking runs. After Finley Morgan beat two players on the right he crossed for Cole Monaghan to strike the ball first time into the corner to win 2-1.
Sidmouth U10 Raiders 0 v Pinhoe 0
A hard fought game with few clear chances against Pinhoe ended with a 0-0 draw. Glenn Sinker and Theo Burne coped well with the Pinhoe forwards. The real battle was in midfield where Finlay Morgan and George Salter were quick and strong in the tackle to set up Scott Gibson and Oliver Jones who linked up well in attack. Finlay Morgan had a fierce shot from distance that was well saved. In the second half Ben Scrivens and Thomas West dealt with some long balls and defended very well. Isaac James was forced to make a great save when he palmed away a long range shot heading for the top corner. Jake Jones and Scott Gibson chased the chances and Jake Jones got back to dribble out of danger and clear upfield. In an even half George Salter and Cole Monaghan were particularly strong in midfield with their tackling and running.

Sidmouth Raiders 0 v 2 Seaton
Cup Match against Seaton then a friendly, meet at Newton Pop 9.30

Saturday 4 November Match Report

Sidmouth U10 Raiders 0 v Seaton 4
Seaton kicked off, but Sidmouth soon won the ball back with some great tackling from George Salter, great passing from Theo Burne, Will Lorkin and Thomas West, Sidmouth looked in control but then Seaton were awarded a free kick just outside the box which was fantastically saved by Cole Monaghan. Cole continued to pull off a string of superb saves. Sidmouths defence of Glen Sinker and Thomas West looked unbeatable but then a momentary lapse in concentration saw Seaton one nil up, Scott Gibson did his best to break through the Seaton defence but they were well organised and repelled everything thrown at them. Half time saw wholesale changes to the Sidmouth side with Jake Jones, Ben Scrivens, Oliver Jones and Finlay Morgan coming on. These boys looked comfortable on the ball and knocked the ball around between them excellently, Sidmouth looked in complete control and pushed forward to try and find the equaliser, but Seaton caught them on the break and slotted home a simple goal, Sidmouth continued to push forward trying to get themselves level but kept being pushed back by a very well organised Seaton side, Sidmouth found themselves a further two goals down and finished the game with a four nil defeat.
Sidmouth U10 Raiders 0 v Exmouth 4
Tony West gave the team talk before the second game and the boys seemed up for the challenge of their derby against there local rivals, Exmouth were keen to get revenge from last season. Sidmouth started the better footballing side, again superb passing between Jake Jones, Oliver Jones and Finlay Morgan saw a shot from Jake take a deflection and Sidmouth awarded a corner. Exmouth counter attacked and were pushed back after smart defending by Glen Sinker and Thomas West, Cole Monaghan delivered a goal kick straight to the feet of Oliver Jones who beat two Exmouth players and then delivered a pin point cross to Jake Jones, who shot for a certain goal only to be denied by a one handed goal line save. Exmouth pushed forward against the run of play, they had a long range shot which cannoned back off the post straight to the feet of an Exmouth forward who slotted into the net past the sprawling graspe of Cole Monaghan. Sidmouth looked shocked to concede and soon found their goal under attack again, after a goal line scramble Exmouth bundled the ball over the line for another goal. The second half saw changes again, Sidmouth tried hard to find there passing but Exmouth now seemed unstoppable, Thomas West did his best to keep them out but Sidmouth were soon three down. George Salter was on a one man mission to get his team back into the game, but a solid Exmouth pushed forward and Glen Sinker, now in goal was beaten once more with a free kick smashed into the top corner of the goal. Will Lorkin chased down a loose Exmouth pass and ran towards goal but was crowded out by Exmouths defence. Exmouth piled forward and hit the post, Glen Sinker made two great saves in the dying seconds to keep the score at four nil when the ref blew for full time.

Sidmouth Town Junior Vikings "U10 Raiders” Match Report Saturday 24th September 2011
A tough opening weekend for Sidmouth Raiders U10’s playing a strong Westhill Wasps side. Westhill started strongly putting intense pressure on the Sidmouth defence. New boy Ollie Pugsley opened the scoring for Westhill with an excellent strike from just inside the box, and this was followed by three more goals in the first half. Sidmouth began solidly in the second half with good defending and a great individual effort from Ollie Jones who took the ball up-field and struck from outside the box to bring the score to 4-1. Despite improved forward play by Sidmouth’s Jake Jones and Scott Gibson they were unable to score again and succumbed to late Westhill pressure and two further goals.

The second match was against mid-Devon team CS Tigers. Sidmouth showed determination and improved team effort in this match and were unlucky to concede a goal from a corner kick in the first half. Excellent passing between Theo Burne and Cole Monaghan allowed Scott Gibson to slot in an equaliser. After a long spell of possession in the second half, CS Tigers scored the winner.

Thanks must go to the two deputising goalies this week, Glen Sinker and Cole Monaghan, and well done to man of the match, Ollie Jones.

Writes,
Patrick Scrivens
